Program Summary:

• The RN-BSN completion curriculum provides the associate degree or diploma-prepared registered nurse (RN) an opportunity to earn their Bachelor of Science in nursing degree (BSN). The curriculum is designed to enhance and advance the student’s professional nursing career.
• Must complete nursing prerequisite courses, and general education and foreign language requirements by the end of the semester of application to the RN BSN Completion program (BSN) major. Registered nurses seeking admission to the curriculum that need to complete nursing prerequisites and/or general education courses may apply for admission to the Pre-RN-BSN Completion Curriculum.
• Admissions to RN-BSN major: Minimum Prerequisite GPA of 2.0. Current RN License. Competitive admissions. RN BSN admissions both Fall (March15 deadline to UNCC, March 30 deadline to School of Nursing) and Spring (September 15 deadline to UNCC, Sept. 30 deadline to School of Nursing) semesters. Admission to Pre-RN-BSN does not automatically admit an applicant to the RN-BSN Completion Curriculum.
• Advising (pre-major): Suggested to have transcripts reviewed by RN BSN coordinator prior to application.
• Advising (RN BSN major): School of Nursing RN BSN coordinator.
• Minimum Grades/GPA: Minimum grade of C in pre-nursing prerequisite courses, Minimum grades of C in nursing major courses. Major GPA of 2.0 required for graduation.

Program Requirements:

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at UNC Charlotte is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) through 2011, and approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

The RN-BSN completion curriculum provides the associate degree or diploma-prepared registered nurse (RN) an opportunity to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN). The curriculum is designed to enhance and advance the student’s professional nursing career BSN graduates are prepared to function in a variety of care settings to include hospitals, clinics, public health, home health, hospice and long term care facilities, and may assume leadership and management roles as well because of their education.

Upon completion of the nursing pre-requisite courses, and general education and foreign language requirements students apply to the RN BSN completion program option for the BSN major. Students are admitted to the RN BSN completion program major twice a year. Decisions on admission are made by the School of Nursing in the Spring for Fall admission and in the Fall for Spring admission. Admission is competitive, and not all students are accepted into the RN BSN Completion Nursing program. Consistent with University policy, the School offers admission to applicants whose credentials present the best qualifications among those meeting minimum requirements.

Minimum criteria for Admission to the RN BSN completion nursing program:

• A current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse.
• A grade point average of 2.0 or better in all college courses which are eligible for transfer to UNC Charlotte.
• At least a “C” in all required nursing prerequisites.
• Completion of all prerequisites, and general education and foreign language requirements by the end of the semester prior to the semester for which the application is made.
• Prior to enrolling in RN-BSN program courses students must have the following:

a. Current unencumbered license to practice as a RN in the United States.

b. Professional RN Liability insurance.

c. Meet University Health Requirements.

d. Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater in AAS degree coursework

The RN BSN completion program curriculum is structured and offered via a cohort basis and requires students to complete a precise curriculum in the order in which it is scheduled by the School of Nursing. A failure (grade of D or F) in a RN BSN completion program course will result in the student’s dismissal from the RN BSN Nursing major with no chance for readmission within 2 years. A total of a minimum of 120 121 credit hours is required for graduation.
